Early in my career, when I lived in California, I worked in oil painting, primarily reproductions of buildings and landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and the California Missions. I loved my work and was successful--but something was missing.
Later, after moving to Calgary, I was browsing at some paintings and windows in a stained glass store. My eye caught a bucket of glass pieces, obviously leftovers from classes, and I began to put them together to make a mosaic.
I knew at that moment that this would be my passion and my life's work.
After extensive training in the craft, I began a career creating stained glass art.
Some of my favorite pieces are ones created for specific occasions, such as the reproduction of a wedding invitation and a kitchen table top with the client's heirloom dinner plates and flatware worked into the design.
I especially enjoy meeting and working with people, learning who they are and what special design will please them.
Seeing a piece of original glass art come alive under my fingers, feeling each tiny groove of the piece and watching the light shine through it, is mystical. |
